Should Hindi posts have English URL slugs?

For most Hindi and other Indian-language sites, yes. A Hindi slug works, but when the link is copied or shared it often turns into long codes like %E0%A4…, which are hard to read and look untrustworthy.

Choose it in the campaign setting Slug Language:

  • English – the slug is made in English (ASCII) letters from the original title. A Hindi or other non-Latin title is first translated to English, or written in Latin letters. Recommended for Indian-language sites.
  • Campaign Default Language – WordPress makes the slug from the final post title, so a Hindi title gives a Hindi URL.

Campaigns made by Auto Setup and the starter campaigns already use English. Even when Post language — all campaigns in Auto Setup forces Hindi for every post, the slug stays in English letters, while the headline, article, SEO title and description stay in Hindi. With the SEO Engine on, the slug is also kept short.
